Every part of my creations are meticulously crafted by hand to be as realistic as possible, from mixing and transplanting many colours of wool to create the elaborate textures of the skin and fur to the eyes, the nails and claws, the teeth and the nose, all of which are made from clay. It is very delicate and time consuming work, but I hope you will agree that the results are more than worth the time.
My creations are delicate and solely for decorative purposes, they should not be
used as toys for children or pets.
Please enjoy the Gallery of my portraits and felted creatures as well as a collection
of photos from happy clients that have been sent to me.
My name is Terumi Ohta, a self-taught needle felt artist.
Born in Hokkaido (The most northern part of Japan), I grew up surrounded by nature, flowers and animals.ﾠMy interest in drawing began at an early age.
In 2009 I began studying the European style of flower arranging (both fresh and preserved) and, after taking my certification, taught at a flower school in Tokyo.
In 2010 I moved to London to study English. Whilst there I was an assistant to a florist for wedding ceremonies, events, and garden work. As for my own flower work, I displayed Christmas arrangements at the Mitsukoshi London Department Store.
After returning to Japan, I started learning Ikebana Sogetsu Style (one of the traditional Japanese flower arrangements).ﾠ After finishing all of the necessary courses, I am currently studying to obtain a licence to become a lecturer.
In 2012 I discovered needle felting and it became my passion.
In 2013 I created my brand " True Style Lab. "
For my drawings, my goal was realist drawing, meticulous to the smallest detail with photographic likeness of the portrayed objects and models. This style of drawing has greatly influenced my needle felting work.
In 2014 I had my own stall and my creations attracted huge attention on a show stage at "WonderWool Wales" in the UK.
My first solo exhibition was held in Tokyo.
I also host events at Shinjuku Isetan and Tamagawa Takashimaya, and my work and I featured on the Japanese TV programme “News Zero - Zero Human”.
